Dr. P. K. Ray is presently Professor in the Department of Horticulture at Rajendra Agricultural University, Pusa (Samastipur), Bihar. Born on June 28, 1950 at Jagadishpur in district Bhojpur (Bihar) Dr. Ray had an excellent academic record throughout. He obtained his B. Sc in Agriculture in 1971 and M. Sc in Horticulture in 1974 from Rajendra Agricultural University, Pusa. He completed his Ph. D. from IARI, New Delhi in 1989, specializing in Pomology as ICAR Sr. Research Fellow. He was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Horticulture, at Ranchi Agricultural College (now Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi) as in March, 1976. He joined Tirhut College of Agriculture, Dholi in 1979 and elevated to the post of Associate Professor there in May, 1989. He had been Head of the Horticultural Research Station, Birauly for nearly 10 years from 1990 to 2000. He assumed his present position in RAU, Pusa in Sept.1998 and continuing his research and teaching by focusing attention on means of productivity gains in fruit crops through cultural and genetic manipulations.


His professional career of teaching, research and extension in the field of Horticultural Science spans over a period of 34 years. His current research is focused on increasing productivity of tropical (banana and papaya) and subtropical (litchi) fruits. Specific research areas include soil nutrient, irrigation, and crop management to improve the productivity of fruit crops. Dr. Ray has made significant contributions in standardizing cultural practices for higher productivity of these fruits in different agro-ecological regions of Bihar. He has guided 4 M. Sc Theses and handled 4 major research projects with focus on integrated crop production system and post-harvest management. His list of publications includes 3 books, 7 bulletins, 12 book chapters, 67 refereed research papers and over 75 popular articles. Dr. Ray has been a fellow of the AIPUB. He was awarded G.L. Chadha Memorial Gold Medal for his contribution to fruit Science in 2008.
